Hello, gang.

As I haven’t posted for a while, I thought I’d just do a post about what I’m up to at the moment.

I’m making an animated film using the Hans Christian Andersen fairytale ‘The Sandman’ as a stepping stone, and my section is a dream sequence involving a mouse wedding.

I’ve made good use of the copy of ‘Alice in Wonderland: Through the Visual Arts’, available to read in the Arnolfini reading room and also, I’ve been watching a lot of Jan Svankmajer films, including his horrible but cool interpretation of Alice in Wonderland, called ‘Neco Z Alenky’. Somebody’s distilled the film into their own trailer and uploaded it to Youtube, which is really good. (Thanks, Somebody!)

If you don’t have time to watch the entire film, which you should because it’s just gosh darn cool, then watch this trailer!

All of his short films are pretty incredible – another which I would recommend is ‘Dimensions of Dialogue’.

Here are some of the character designs which I’ve drawn – I’m currently trying to translate this into actual, manipulable 3-D models. Image

(Yes, this is the mouse couple consummating their marriage.)

Some of them are character designs, some of them are just clips from my storyboard! Enjoy!
