PlayStation Forth

Games

playstation-logoA few weeks ago, Sony Computer Entertainment released a teaser video, the video teased “the future” and featured the infamous triangle, circle, cross and square followed by a date: Feb 20, 2012. That’s only 3 days away. It has been highly speculated that during this “PlayStation Meeting”, Sony will announce the next PlayStation console. Whether you’re a gamer or not, an announcement like that would be HUGE news.

Since then, Sony has released three other videos, all of which show the evolution of the PlayStation brand:

When I think of the PlayStation 1, I think of my introduction to the Metal Gear Solid series (this video), Tenchu, Final Fantasy, Jackie Chan: Stuntmaster, and even Simpsons Wrestling. While the PlayStation 2 reminds me a lot of the first day we bought GTA: San Andreas, Prince ofmetal-gear-solid-box-playstation-4 Persia, Lego Star Wars, Shadow of the Colossus, The Mark of Kri, Burnout and the first ever online game I played excessively: Socom II: U.S. Navy SEALs  – in those days, wireless routers weren’t as common as they are now, so we would all fight over who got to use the internet – where I recall being kicked out of a game because my voice sounded “foreign”.

It’s interesting because not only have Sony got people talking about what’s to come but, more importantly, they’ve also given people a chance to talk about the past and relive their precious memories. A very smart move if you ask me. The past few weeks have shown me that Sony seem to have learnt from their past mistakes and are ready to get back into the game. So without a doubt, Wednesday will turn out to be a interesting day. As one person quite interestingly said: “If the Playstation 4 is announced on the 20th, the internet will blow up. If the PlayStation 4 isn’t announced on the 20th, the internet will blow up.”

Sony have now added a ‘Gaming on the Go’ video showing the history of their handheld consoles, here it is:

    1. Haha, I forgot about Lara Croft! What I remember the most from that series is the butler who used to follow you around in Lara Croft II.

It took me a while to fully finish a game too, I used to get just as much enjoyment watching other people play through.
