This artist/exhibition was really important to one of my projects during A-level Fine Art, which was titled ‘Self’.
Gunther Von Hagens uses the ‘plastination’ technique to preserve human bodies.
Plastination involves peeling off the skin to reveal organs, arteries and muscles of the body, before preserving them by replacing bodily fluids with a special plastic material. His exhibitions explore the cycle of human life and display the beautiful intricacy of the body.
I was lucky enough to see one of his exhibitions in the 02 arena a few years ago.
